The PERCEPTEC GmbH is a young, innovation-driven, and multi-award-winning company based at the heart of Jena's start-up community. Currently, we are developing a virtual eye test for the rapid and independent determination of visual impairments of the human eye.
Your role:
As a Senior Software Developer (m/f/d), you will build Software in a Medical Device (SiMD, classified IIa). Development follows MPDG/MDR and relevant standards (IEC 62304, ISO 13485 etc.) and applies privacy- and security-by-design (GDPR) with a strong focus on clinical validity and patient safety. You own features end-to-end, from backend/cloud to frontend and shape the architecture, processes, and secure integration of ML features. You will play a central role in fast and agile software development in a small but growing team of developers.
Your tasks:
- Design and architect scalable back-end systems for a medical device, delivering reliable and secure APIs with thorough documentation and compliance with medical software standards.
- Develop a high-performance front-end with a strong focus on UI/UX quality, tailored for medical professionals and patients.
- Integrate and maintain databases to support device data processing, analytics, and secure patient records.
- Design, implement, and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and efficient release management practices to ensure high-quality, secure, and regulatory-compliant software delivery.
- Design, implement, and integrate ML/AI algorithms to optimize diagnostic workflows and enhance test accuracy for eye care applications.
- Enhance code quality and maintainability by applying clean-code practices.
- Contribute ideas and drive technical improvements across the stack.
- Ensure documentation and traceability across the SDLC (from requirements to tests) per IEC 62304.
- Support risk management (ISO 14971), QMS artifacts (ISO 13485), and clinical evaluation with RA/QA.
- Collaborate closely with eye care specialists to translate clinical needs into robust, user-centered digital solutions.
Your profile:
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of professional full-stack development experience.
- Experience in medtech/healthcare, practical experience with MDR/IEC 62304-compliant development or high willingness to learn, including documentation and traceability of Software in a Medical Device (ISO 13485, ISO 14971, ISO 9000, IEC 25010, IEC 81001, IEC29119).
- Solid knowledge of programming in Python and other technologies such as JEE/Java, JavaScript, TypeScript/Node.js or .NET.
- Good experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) or NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB).
- Good knowledge of responsive design, web services and React (or a comparable modern front-end framework).
- Hands-on experience in the end-to-end development and deployment of ML/AI solutions, preferably applied to healthcare or medical/eye-care technologies.
- Proven experience with test-driven development (TDD), CI/CD pipelines, and code quality tools (e.g., Jenkins, SonarQube, Git).
- Hands-on knowledge of DevOps and automation tools such as Docker and Prometheus, with a strong focus on reliable software delivery and system monitoring.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and an independent, structured and proactive work style.
- Very good English skills (C1), good German skills (B1).
